Inbred Strains
Inbred strains are laboratory-bred lines of animals that have been selectively bred and maintained over multiple generations by inbreeding. The inbreeding process results in homozygosity, which means every physical trait of the animal will be expressed in each individual. Inbred strains are used in scientific research, such as genetic studies and medical trials, as they are genetically consistent and can be replicated and controlled. As a result, they provide researchers with a reliable platform to test hypotheses and understand the effects of genetics in the context of health and disease. Furthermore, the use of inbred strains has been instrumental in the development of new pharmaceuticals and treatments.
