Mariculture

Mariculture is the cultivation of marine species like fish, mollusks and crustaceans in a controlled environment for the purpose of harvesting seafood and other products for human consumption. It has become an important source of fish, having a major impact on global food security, nutrition and economic development. Mariculture allows for more efficient and sustainable management of marine resources, as the close cultivation of marine species can provide regular, high yields of seafood with minimal environmental impacts. Mariculture is also important for species conservation, as it can help protect endangered species and provide habitat for marine creatures in areas where wild populations have diminished. Mariculture is a growing industry and is increasingly used to produce a range of products, from food to pharmaceuticals.
