Micrornas

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNA molecules that regulate gene expression and play critical roles in various cellular processes, including development, differentiation and disease. MiRNAs act by binding to the mRNA target, thereby downregulation of the gene and consequently, impact the gene's expression level. MiRNAs have been demonstrated to be involved in cancer, metabolic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases and infectious diseases, among others. Further, recent studies have revealed that miRNAs are also involved in drug sensitization or resistance, which can be employed to design an efficient drug therapy. Therefore, miRNAs have become an attractive target for drug development as miRNA-based therapeutics are considered to have a great potential to treat many diseases.
