Streptomyces
Streptomyces is a genus of soil-dwelling bacteria. It is commonly found in soil and is a key source of antibiotics, such as streptomycin, tetracycline and actinomycin D. Streptomyces is also important for its ability to act as a natural source of fungicides, as well as for its ability to produce a variety of bioactive compounds. These compounds have a wide range of applications, from pharmaceuticals and pesticides to food preservatives and flavorings. Streptomyces is also an important part of the global ecology, as the bacteria help to breakdown organic materials and release vital nutrients for other organisms.
