Trichophyton

Trichophyton is a genus of fungi that is commonly found in humans, animals, and soil. It is a primary cause of dermatophytosis, a type of ringworm infection that predominately affects the skin, nails, and hair. The fungi can be picked up through direct contact and by coming in contact with contaminated objects. Trichophyton species have also been associated with nail and scalp infections. Proper diagnosis and treatment of Trichophyton infections is important in order to reduce the risk of spread and disruption to normal daily activities.
