Trisomics
Trisomics is a type of genetic disorder caused by an extra chromosomal complement, where three copies (instead of the usual two) of a particular chromosome exist in an individual's cells. This condition can lead to the symptoms and signs depending on the chromosomal complement affected by the additional copy. Trisomics can cause a wide array of medical conditions, including learning and behavioural difficulties, physical malformations, and developmental delays. It can also result in reproductive issues and cause infertility. Diagnosis and treatment of trisomics requires highly specialized medical care, as well as genetic counselling to understand the risks and complications associated with the condition. As such, awareness and knowledge of trisomics can help those affected and their families to access the necessary support to enhance their quality of life.
