Williams-Beuren Syndrome
Williams-Beuren Syndrome (WBS) is a genetic disorder caused by the deletion of multiple genes on chromosome 7. It is characterized by cardiovascular, developmental and behavioral problems. Affected individuals typically display a distinctive physical appearance, including elfin-like facial features, and often a friendly, engaging personality. Common symptoms also include mental impairment, mild to moderate learning difficulties, and problems with connecting words and forming sentences. WBS has a wide range of potential treatments, including physical, occupational, speech and language therapy, behavior management and psychosocial therapy. With early intervention and continued support, individuals with Williams-Beuren Syndrome can lead fulfilling, successful lives.
