Energy Metabolism
Energy metabolism is the process by which the body converts food into the energy needed to power its cells. It is a complex process, involving the breakdown of carbohydrates, fats and proteins by enzymes into their various metabolites before they can be used by the cells as fuel. This energy is then used for a variety of processes, including growth, repair and development, as well as to generate movement. Furthermore, energy metabolism plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy body weight, as excess energy is either stored as fat or used up in physical activity. It is an essential process for life, and its disruption can lead to a variety of health conditions.
