Glycans and Biotechnology

Glycans, also known as carbohydrates, are essential components of living organisms, found in all living cells. They are vital for cellular processes; for instance, glycans provide energy for the cells and serve as building blocks for many essential molecules in the human body. Through biotechnology, glycans can be modified in order to produce vital proteins, medicines, and other important bioproducts. This makes them important tools in the pharmaceutical, food, and agriculture industries, as well as in modern medicine. The use of glycans in biotechnology provides new opportunities to address existing issues and uncover new solutions.
