Glycans and Cancer
Glycans are a type of sugar molecule which form part of the surfaces of cells in the body. They play a key role in the way that cells interact with other cells in the body and with the environment around them. Recent research has shown that glycans are important in the development of cancer, both in how cancer cells can spread, and also how the immune system can respond to cancer. They can act as markers for the presence of cancer, and have the potential to be used as treatments for cancer.
