Golgi Apparatus
The Golgi apparatus is a cellular organelle that is found in eukaryotes and is important for the sorting and modification of proteins. It is composed of several flattened membrane-bound compartments, or cisternae, that are connected by tubules. Proteins and other molecules synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum enter the Golgi apparatus and are sorted and modified before being sent to other cellular locations. The Golgi apparatus is also involved in the production of certain molecules, such as lysosomes, which contain digestive enzymes, and glycoproteins, which are important for cell-cell recognition. The Golgi apparatus plays an important role in regulating the flow of molecules within eukaryotic cells and is thus essential for their normal functioning.
