Mannitol

Mannitol is a naturally-occurring sugar alcohol found in many fruits and vegetables. It is most known for its utility in medical settings as a non-metabolizable osmotic diuretic. In other words, It causes the body to increase its production of urine, which can be beneficial in the treatment of increased intracranial pressure and to promote kidney function in those suffering from renal failure. Additionally, it is used in foods as a sweetener and to maintain moisture. Mannitol is a valuable tool for healthcare professionals and is an important consideration in many food formulations.
