Riboswitches
Riboswitches are RNA molecules found in the 5’UTR of messenger RNA (mRNA) that can bind to specific small molecules, such as metabolites, and regulate gene expression. They are considered an important part of gene regulation, due to their ability to directly control mRNA translation. Riboswitches have been used to develop therapeutic strategies to combat bacterial infections, cancer, dental caries, and other diseases, as well as to create biosensors. These RNA molecules can also be used to modulate gene expression within cells, allowing for greater control over biological processes. Riboswitches are an incredibly important tool in molecular biology, allowing scientists to better understand gene regulation and explore innovative treatments for various diseases.
