Chemotherapy and Viral Oncology

Hematology and Oncology research i.e the treatment of blood disorders and cancer has come a long way in recent years. The world of science has introduced various treatments and approaches to tackle the disease at different stages of its development. One such approach is known as Chemotherapy. This treatment involves administering a group of drugs that target rapidly dividing cells, including cancer cells. The drugs work by either halting cell division or damaging the DNA of the cell. The administration of chemotherapy is done in cycles because it affects both cancerous and healthy cells. The cycle approach allows healthy cells to recover and regenerate while cancer cells are killed off. Despite its effectiveness in fighting cancer, chemotherapy can also have adverse side effects such as nausea, hair loss, fatigue, and a weakened immune system. Another emerging research field in Oncology is Viral Oncology. This field suggests the possible link between viruses and the development of cancerous cells. Researchers have found some viruses that alter the genetic makeup of healthy cells and trigger mutations that lead to the development of cancer. HPV is one such example, with the virus being a leading cause of cervical and other types of cancer. Furthermore, some vaccines are being developed to be effective against certain viruses which can cause cancer, such as the HPV vaccine. In conclusion, Hematology and Oncology research have made significant strides in recent years. The development of chemotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment, while viral oncology is an emerging field that could provide a different approach to fighting and preventing cancer. The research on discovering new drugs, therapies, and treatments is ongoing, giving hope of finding a cure for cancer in the future.
