Curative Resection

Curative resection is a common surgical procedure used in the treatment of cancers involving the digestive system, liver, lungs, and other organs. It involves the removal of the entire tumor along with a margin of healthy tissue to ensure the cancer is fully eliminated. In oncology research, curative resection is considered the gold standard for the treatment of cancer, as it has been proven to be effective in improving survival rates and reducing the risk of recurrence. However, not all patients are eligible for curative resection, especially those with metastatic cancers or advanced stage diseases. In hematology, curative resection is less common as it is usually reserved for the treatment of hematopoietic tumors or malignancies that affect the blood or bone marrow. In these cases, surgery may involve the removal of a diseased spleen or lymph node, or the transplantation of healthy bone marrow stem cells. Aside from surgery, curative resection may also involve the use of adjuvant therapies such as radiation and chemotherapy to further reduce the risk of recurrence. These therapies aim to kill any remaining cancer cells that may have been left behind after surgery, and also to prevent the growth of new cancerous cells. Overall, curative resection remains a crucial treatment option in the field of hematology and oncology research, especially when combined with other adjuvant therapies. It offers patients a chance to overcome their disease and improve their quality of life.
