Amebiasis
Amebiasis is an infectious disease caused by a single-celled protozoan parasite known as Entamoeba histolytica. It is estimated to affect approximately 50 million people around the world each year, primarily in developing countries, as well as in some areas of the United States. Symptoms of amebiasis include diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramps, nausea, lack of appetite, and weight loss. In some cases, severe complications such as liver abscesses and amebic colitis can occur. Amebiasis is usually treated with antibiotics and antiparasitic medications. Effective preventive measures include safe practices for food and water consumption, as well as proper hygiene.
