Volvulus

Volvulus is a type of intestinal obstruction in which the intestine twists around itself, cutting off its own blood supply, and causing symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting. Volvulus can be caused by congenital conditions, or it can be acquired due to degeneration of the intestinal muscles. Treatment typically involves surgically untwisting the intestine and removing any damaged tissue. Volvulus can be a life-threatening condition if not treated quickly, as it can cut off vital blood supply to the intestine and cause perforation. Early diagnosis and timely medical attention can prevent serious and potentially fatal complications.
