Anticonvulsants
Anticonvulsants are a type of medication used to treat epilepsy and to prevent or reduce the severity and frequency of seizures. They work by reducing the abnormal electrical activity in the brain that causes seizures. They are an important part of the treatment for epilepsy and can help reduce the number of seizures a person experiences, as well as improve their quality of life. Anticonvulsants are also used to treat other conditions such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. They can also be used to reduce the risk of sudden death in people with certain types of heart rhythm disorder.
