Childhood Absence Epilepsy
Childhood Absence Epilepsy (CAE) is a common form of childhood epilepsy, characterized by brief, recurrent seizures with typical absence or stare episodes. These episodes can be accompanied by other symptoms, such as eye blinking and lip smacking. CAE typically begins in early childhood and is often considered a benign form of epilepsy with good long-term seizure control in most patients. CAE is important to recognize and diagnose, as it can significantly impact a child’s education and functioning in daily activities. Treatment with anti-epileptic medications is usually successful, leading to improved seizure control and better quality of life. Early recognition and treatment of Childhood Absence Epilepsy is important to ensure that children can reach their full potential.
