Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a neurological disorder where a person has recurrent seizures due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Seizures can be anything from minor to life-threatening, and can include staring spells, convulsions, loss of consciousness, and involuntary muscle contractions or jerking movements. Epilepsy impacts people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities and its cause can range from genetics to head trauma or stroke. Treatment is available and involves the use of medications, lifestyle changes, and sometimes surgery. The aim of treatment is to limit the number and severity of seizures so that the person can have a better quality of life.
