Lyme
disease Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks. Ticks are typically found in wooded and grassy areas, and when they bite, the bacteria can be passed on to the person. Symptoms of Lyme disease can include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, the infection can spread to other parts of the body, including the joints, heart and nervous system. Diagnosis of Lyme disease is done through a combination of physical examination, medical history, and laboratory testing. Treatment of Lyme disease can vary depending on the stage of the disease and the symptoms present, but generally includes antibiotic medications. It is important to be aware of tick-borne illnesses and to take precautions to help avoid tick bites. Early recognition and treatment of Lyme disease is essential in reducing its associated risks.
