Pleural Effusion

Pleural effusion is a condition where an abnormal amount of fluid builds up in the pleural space, the area between the lung and the chest wall. This can interfere with normal breathing and can cause chest pain, cough, and difficulty breathing. It can also be a sign of an underlying condition, such as pneumonia, heart failure, or cancer. Treatment depends on the cause and may include draining the fluid and using medication to manage symptoms. Early diagnosis and treatment of pleural effusion can improve quality of life, reduce complications, and even save lives.
