Aqueous Biphasic Systems

Aqueous biphasic systems (ABS) are two-phase solutions composed of two immiscible and aqueous-based liquids. They are of great scientific interest due to their application in chromatography, protein separations, and bioseparations, among other biotechnological and pharmaceutical purposes. ABS are of significant importance in the environmental, chemical and biochemical industries. When it comes to bioseparations, ABS are used to recover proteins, vitamins, and other products in a cost-effective and efficient way. Due to their unique properties, such as low toxicity, simple preparation, and easy recovery of the substances, ABS have become a reliable and effective tool in various scientific fields. The use of ABS can improve the selectivity and recovery of the products, leading to better quality products. Therefore, ABS have become integral to the success of biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries.
