Monitored Anesthesia Care
Monitored anesthesia care (MAC) is a technique used during surgical procedures where the anesthesiologist is continuously involved in the patient’s care to maintain their safety and comfort. MAC allows the anesthesiologist to more closely monitor the patient, taking preventive measures to prevent major complications and facilitating a smooth recovery without having to wait for the wakeup phase. MAC is increasingly becoming the preferred technique for many outpatient procedures due to its reduced risks associated with general anesthesia, including decreased chance of postoperative nausea and vomiting. Patients also benefit from faster recovery times, shorter hospital stays, and improved overall patient satisfaction.
