Autolysis

Autolysis is a naturally occurring process in which cells and tissues break down due to their own enzymes. This phenomenon is important in many living organisms, including plants, animals, and humans. Autolysis can occur in a variety of ways, such as through the action of hydrolytic enzymes, or in response to stress, genetic mutations, and other environmental factors. It is also used in some medical treatments and in biotechnology research, as well as in brewing beer, cheese-making, and food preservation. Autolysis can be beneficial in helping to break down dead tissue and fight infection, but it can also be damaging in some cases, leading to the breakdown of healthy cells and tissue. Understanding and controlling autolysis can be important in health and biotechnology.
