Calpain Inhibitors

Calpain inhibitors are proteins that regulate cell function in the human body by blocking the action of the enzyme calpain. Calpain is an enzyme involved in various cellular processes such as signal transduction, apoptosis, and muscle contraction. By inhibiting the action of the calpain enzyme, calpain inhibitors may reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and muscular dystrophies. They also have potential in treating acute and chronic pain. Calpain inhibitors have also been explored as possible treatments for myocardial infarction and stroke. These proteins may be the basis for the development of new therapies for a range of human health conditions.
