Cell Metabolism
Cell Metabolism is the set of chemical processes that occur in living cells to maintain life, such as extracting energy from food, synthesizing proteins, and eliminating wastes. It is an essential component of both health and disease and is a major component of major fields of biology such as biochemistry and physiology. As it directly impacts how the cell survives and grows, cell metabolism has been studied in a myriad of contexts and has had a major impact on the many treatments and cures for diseases like cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, advances in this field have allowed us to manipulate metabolic pathways to improve food production, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
