Cell Signaling and Mechanisms
Cell signaling is the process through which cells communicate and respond to each other and their environment. It is a vital component of cell biology and is integral to the functioning of organisms. Cell signaling helps cells respond to stimuli, maintain homeostasis, and allows for cell differentiation, proliferation and death. In humans, cell signaling is important for tissue and organ development, bodily functions, immunity, and disease resistance. Understanding and manipulating cell signaling can provide insight into the function of cells and aid in the treatment and prevention of diseases.
