Nissl Staining

Nissl staining is a common technique used to study the structure of neurons in the brain and spinal cord. It involves staining the cell bodies of neurons with a dye that is absorbed by the cell membrane. The resulting staining allows researchers to view the cell bodies, which can provide insight into the structure of neuron pathways and the brain's functioning. Nissl staining is an invaluable tool in research on the structure and function of the nervous system, including understanding the mechanisms of diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. It has also been used to understand how the brain processes sensory information and is used in the diagnosis of neurological disorders.
