Cytokine Therapy for Cancer
Cytokine therapy is a type of immunotherapy used in the treatment of cancer. It involves the administration of certain proteins called cytokines, which can activate the body's immune system and help it fight cancer. Cytokine therapy has been used to treat various types of cancer, including melanoma, lymphoma, and leukemia, as well as solid tumours such as breast, prostate and lung cancer. The therapeutic benefits of cytokine therapy include the induction of T cell-mediated antitumour immunity, increased numbers of natural killer cells, and suppression of tumour growth and metastasis. This treatment may be used in combination with other treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, to enhance the efficacy of cancer therapy. While the exact mechanisms of action are incompletely understood, the use of cytokine therapy for cancer is becoming increasingly promising.
