Cytosol

Cytosol is an aqueous solution of proteins and other molecules, and is the main component of the cytoplasm in cells. It provides a medium for the dynamic movements of molecules and helps to regulate many cellular processes, such as cell signalling and metabolism. The cytosol is essential for the function of many important organelles such as the nucleus, mitochondria, and ribosomes. It also plays a role in nutrient uptake and energy production, allowing cells to survive. Cytosol is thus essential for all life, and its manipulation is used to study various aspects of cell physiology in research.
