Infectious Diseases Respiratory Infections
Respiratory infections are infections in the lungs, sinuses, and respiratory tract caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. They can range from mild to severe and can cause a variety of symptoms including coughing, sneezing, difficulty breathing, and fever. They are one of the leading causes of death among all infectious diseases, with an estimated 2.4 million deaths globally in 2019. Treatment for respiratory infections typically involves rest, fluids, and medications to reduce fever and relieve symptoms. In severe cases, hospitalization may be required. Preventing the spread of these infections is key to reducing their impact on the population. This can be done by washing hands, avoiding contact with people who are sick, and getting vaccinated.
