Interferons
Interferons are a family of proteins produced and released by cells in response to the presence of foreign agents such as viruses, bacteria, and parasites. They act as a signaling molecule to activate the immune system to respond to the intruder. Interferons have proven to be very useful and beneficial in several medical treatments, such as cancer and autoimmune diseases. They are also used to enhance the efficacy of drugs and vaccines, helping to decrease any potential harmful side effects. Interferons are powerful antiviral agents and an important component of the body's natural defense system. Moreover, research has found that interferons may have a protective effect against some chronic diseases.
