Klebsiella Infections

Klebsiella infections, caused by the bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae, are a major cause of hospital-acquired infections worldwide. Klebsiella infections can cause a variety of illnesses, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, bloodstream infections, and wound or surgical site infections. The bacteria can also weaken the immune system, making the person more vulnerable to other infections. Treatment of Klebsiella infections typically involves the use of antibiotics, along with other supportive measures. In some cases, antibiotics may not be effective, and more aggressive treatment may be necessary. Prevention of Klebsiella infections is important to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections. Proper hygiene practices, such as hand washing and wearing protective clothing, can help reduce the risk of transmission.
