Meningoencephalitis

Meningoencephalitis is an inflammation of the brain and its surrounding structures, due to an infection. It is a serious neurological condition which can cause difficulty with movement and thinking, as well as other neurological symptoms. The cause of meningoencephalitis is usually a viral infection, but it can also be caused by bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infections. Treatment usually consists of antibiotics and antiviral medication, and supportive care such as pain medications and fluids to prevent dehydration. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are critical for a successful outcome. Meningoencephalitis can be life threatening and it is important to seek medical attention right away if any of the symptoms of this condition are present.
