Resistance and Emerging Infectious Organisms
Resistance and emerging infectious organisms are a major public health threat. Overuse of antibiotics and inadequate control of healthcare infections are causing the emergence of new diseases, while existing diseases are becoming increasingly difficult to treat. As antibiotic resistance continues to spread and new infectious organisms emerge, it is important to focus on preventive strategies, such as antibiotic stewardship, infection control, and research, to reduce the burden of resistance and emerging infections. Vaccines, diagnostics, and other treatments are also needed to identify and treat resistant and emerging infectious organisms. This can help ensure that healthcare professionals are armed with the information and tools they need to control the spread of resistant and emerging infectious organisms and provide appropriate patient care.
