Rubella

Rubella is a highly contagious infection caused by a virus, which primarily affects children and adolescents. It can cause a rash, fever, and swollen lymph glands. The most serious complications are the potential for birth defects in the unborn babies of women who are infected while pregnant. Fortunately, a rubella vaccination is available, and it is highly effective in preventing the spread of the virus and its associated birth defects. Thus, it is recommended that all children and adults receive a rubella vaccination.
