Smallpox Virus
Smallpox virus is one of the most notorious and lethal viruses of all time. It is a large and complex virus from the family of Poxviridae, and the only member of the genus Vaccinia. Smallpox is the first disease to be eradicated through vaccination. This virus has been used in the past as a bioweapon. In humans, the virus causes fever, chills, headache, and a characteristic skin rash. In severe cases, smallpox can be fatal, with a death rate of up to 30%. The last case of smallpox was reported in 1977, and the virus has been officially declared eradicated since 1980.
