Tonsils
Tonsils are clusters of lymphoid tissue located in the back of the throat and form a part of the immune system. They help to prevent infections from entering the body via the mouth, throat or nose. The presence of tonsils is especially important in young children, as they are more susceptible to catching infections. Removing tonsils (called tonsillectomy) can be advised in cases where tonsils become infected and cause recurrent sore throats and fever. Tonsil removal can also be done as a preventative measure against frequent illnesses.
