Neonatal Nutrition
Neonatal nutrition is the nutritional practices and dietary needs of newborn babies in order to ensure optimal physical and mental development. It is an integral component of the management of all newborn babies. Adequate nutrition during the neonatal period is essential for the infant's growth and health, as well as their subsequent development. Adequate nutrition can reduce the incidence and severity of many illnesses, and reduces the risk of mortality. Appropriate nutrition during neonatal care includes exclusive breastfeeding, supplementation with minerals and vitamins, and adequate energy supplies. Additionally, proper nutrition can reduce the risk of chronic diseases later in life, such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.
