Malaise
Traps Malaise traps are devices used in entomology research to passively catch insects for later identification and study. The traps consist of a rectangular box which contains a funnel of netting, supported by a frame and suspended several meters off the ground. The design of the device allows for insects to fly into the box and become trapped within, which can then be collected regularly. Malaise traps provide ecologists and entomologists with an efficient, non-invasive way to collect large numbers of insects in a given area, which can then be studied and used to build a better understanding of insect species composition and dynamics of an ecosystem.
