Psychobiology
Psychobiology is the study of the biological factors that influence mental processes and behaviour. It is an interdisciplinary field, combining elements of psychology, neurobiology and physiology to study the relationship between physical and mental processes. Psychobiology has become increasingly important in the development of treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, mental health disorders, addiction, and eating disorders. Additionally, researchers are studying the interaction of our genes and environment (epigenetics) to better inform interventions. Understanding psychobiology has helped us to better understand and treat a range of mental illnesses and neurodegenerative diseases, improving the health and quality of life of those affected.
