Sociometry

Sociometry is a research tool used to quantify social relationships within a group. It works on the assumption that individuals within a group are more likely to interact with people they like than with those they don’t, and so reveals the dynamics of social networks. It is particularly useful in areas such as organizational behavior, sociology, psychology and health sciences to examine how groups of people interact, how power is distributed, and how individuals relate to one another. It is also used to identify influential members of a group, the levels of support and trust among members, and the overall social norms. By understanding these dynamics, organizations can better tailor their policies and cultures to promote effective teamwork and cohesive communities.
