Neurosteroids
Neurosteroids are hormones synthesized in the brain and spinal cord. They are chemically similar to steroids that are produced in the adrenal glands, but they have distinct physiological functions. Neurosteroids play a key role in the regulation of numerous physiological processes, including sleep, stress, mood, and memory. They also have the potential to be used as therapeutic agents in a range of medical conditions, including depression, anxiety, dementia, and epilepsy. Research suggests that neurosteroids may be effective in treating a range of mental health conditions and neurological diseases.
