Steroid Hormone Excess
Steroid hormones are a group of chemical compounds derived from cholesterol and found in vertebrates and other organisms. They play a key role in many physiological processes and affect many aspects of health and disease. Excess steroid hormones can cause a range of symptoms and diseases, including Cushing’s syndrome, hyperandrogenism and hyperthyroidism. Treatment of steroid hormone excess usually requires a combination of lifestyle changes, medications and, in some cases, surgery. While steroid hormone excess can be life-threatening, monitoring and early diagnosis are essential to minimizing the risk of long-term complications.
