Steroidogenesis
Steroidogenesis is the process in which hormones called steroids are made in the body. These hormones, which are produced by the adrenal glands, ovaries, and testes, are essential for regulating many important body functions, such as maintaining fluid balance, controlling reproductive development and fertility, and regulating cell growth. Steroid hormones are also involved in the development of certain disorders, such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. They also play a role in the development of some cancers. Understanding and manipulating the pathways involved in steroidogenesis can lead to better treatments for a variety of health conditions, as well as potentially new ways of diagnosing and researching a range of diseases.
