Flap (Surgery)

Flap surgery is a reconstructive surgical technique that involves the transfer of tissue to a new location of the body. It is typically used to cover areas with inadequate skin or soft tissue. The source of the flap can be either regional or distant, and is created with the intention to restore form and function to a damaged area. Flap surgery entails careful cutting and sewing of the tissue, and has a high degree of technical complexity. Flap surgery has many uses, such as the restoration of function after traumatic injury or to improve the cosmetic appearance of a deformity, and can often be used in combination with other reconstructive techniques.
