Orchiectomy

An orchiectomy is a surgical procedure to remove one or both testicles. This procedure is carried out for medical reasons, such as cancer or testicular torsion, or for gender-affirming surgery. It typically involves making an incision in the scrotum, removing the testicle, and stitching the incision closed. Removal of both testicles results in a condition called surgical castration. This procedure has significant physical and psychological effects, and it should always be done with the full consent of the patient. Having an orchiectomy can affect fertility, leading to an inability to reproduce naturally, as well as producing psychological effects associated with the loss of reproductive abilities.
