Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other agents. It causes inflammation of the air sacs in the lungs, which fill with fluid or pus. Symptoms of pneumonia can include chest pain, fever, shortness of breath, and coughing up mucus. Pneumonia can be serious, even life-threatening, especially in vulnerable populations such as the elderly, very young, and those with underlying health conditions. Treatment may include antibiotics, hospitalization, and respiratory therapy. Early recognition and prompt treatment of pneumonia can improve outcomes and reduce potential complications.
