Australia - Birds

Australia is home to an incredible diversity of birds, with over 800 species of native birds and another 100 or so species of exotic birds. Australia's birds range from tiny honeyeaters to huge emus, and include some of the most iconic species in the world like the kookaburra, cockatoo, galah, and lyrebird. These beautiful and sometimes enigmatic birds can be found across the country, from the rainforest to the desert, in urban areas and on offshore islands. The presence of these birds is extremely important to Australia's natural environment and biodiversity, as many species help with the pollination of plants, the dispersal of seeds and the maintenance of habitats. Birdwatching is also a popular pastime in Australia, providing many people with enjoyment and a chance to connect with nature.
